If I Directed the Dagger Soliloquy.
If I were to direct Macbeth I would be very careful of the dagger soliloquy. It would have to be perfectly portray Macbeth's state of mind. "Is this a dagger which i see before me,/The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee." (2.1.33). I would try to make him seem completely normal then make the audience question if the dagger is real or not. When Macbeth first sees the dagger I would make it seem as though it was absolutely real and that the three witches left it for him to use.Afterwords Macbeth would realize he couldn't grab it and then it would start to drip blood. "And on thy blade and dudgeon gouts of blood,/ Which was not so before./There's no such thing." (2.1.46). Macbeth starts to question if someone like his servant or Banquo had poisoned him causing hallucinations. Then he starts to knowingly slip into insanity. Lastly, Macbeth goes into a dark place and leaves to attempt to feel sane again.
